Why would Newt Gingrich slam Paul Ryan's Medicare plan, when all it does is hurt Newt politically?

It may not have been a smart move but he spoke the truth for once and got slammed for it. Sometimes people can't help themselves and the truth just comes out of their mouths. If they are Republicans they will surely pay the price for that.
